Tip: Many home ovens run 15-25°F off. A cheap oven thermometer tells you what yours really does.
How it's calculated
°C = (°F - 32) × 5/9; °F = (°C × 9/5) + 32; Fan Oven = Conventional °C - 20°C
We do the math at full precision and only round the final answer, so the numbers you see are as close as kitchen measurements allow. The assumptions and limits are listed alongside.
Worked example
Scenario: Converting 350°F to Celsius, Gas Mark, and Fan Oven.
Inputs350°F
Calculation(350 - 32) × 5/9 = 176.7°C (approx 180°C). Fan Oven: 160°C. Gas Mark: 4.
Result177°C (Conventional), 160°C (Fan-Forced), Gas Mark 4
Common questions
Why is 350°F the most common baking temperature?
It's hot enough for browning (which picks up above about 300°F) but gentle enough that the middle of a cake or cookie cooks through before the outside burns.
