How Our Calculators Work, and How Far to Trust Them
1. Each ingredient has its own weight
There's no single number that turns cups into grams. We use a separate weight for each ingredient, based on USDA FoodData Central and test-kitchen charts: about 120g for a spooned and leveled cup of flour, 200g for sugar, and 340g for honey.
2. Scaling that thinks like a cook
Ingredient amounts scale simply, but pans, simmering, and bake times don't. Our scaling tools show results as kitchen fractions, tell you how many grams half an egg is, and add notes where you should season to taste or split the batter between pans.
3. Good estimates, not lab results
Nutrition figures are averages for raw ingredients. Real food varies by brand, ripeness, and how it's cooked, so treat the results as close estimates, not lab tests or medical advice.
