How to measure: Fluffed, spooned into cup, and leveled with a straight edge. Dipping cup directly can pack up to 140g.
How to use this calculator
- 1Pick granulated, packed brown, or powdered sugar from the ingredient list.
- 2Choose Cups to Grams or Grams to Cups.

How it's calculated
Grams = Volume × Sugar Type Factor (Granulated: 200g, Brown Packed: 215g, Powdered: 120g)
We do the math at full precision and only round the final answer, so the numbers you see are as close as kitchen measurements allow. The assumptions and limits are listed alongside.

Common questions
Can I substitute powdered sugar 1:1 for granulated sugar by volume?
Not in most baking. A cup of powdered sugar weighs about 120g and contains a little cornstarch, while a cup of granulated sugar weighs 200g, so a cup-for-cup swap means much less sugar and a different texture.
